CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions Namibia and OLC Mokuti Solar Energy inaugurate Namibia’s largest photovoltaic and storage system. The plant, whose construction began in July and has been in operation since August 2018, supplies a remote Namibian lodge with clean energy. It will cut operating costs and ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply for the demanding guests.
The milestone was celebrated with an opening ceremony attended by Steffen Kammerer, Managing Director at CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions, Bernd Walbaum, CEO at O&L Energy and Nerise Coetzee, General Manager of Chobe Water Villas. With a capacity of 150 kWp photovoltaic system and a 332 kWh lithium Ion energy storage system it’s the largest of its kind in Namibia.
Steffen Kammerer added that the joint venture partners are very proud to establish another milestone in the field of renewable energy in Namibia. “Together with Qinous, an intelligent energy storage solutions provider who delivered the battery system for the project, we successfully implemented the hybrid system which is the biggest project of its kind in Namibia so far and another innovative step in the right direction for a sustainable and clean energy future for Namibia.”
CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions Namibia is the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) provider of the project. The JV company OLC Energy Services provides the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services to the combined solar and storage facility. OLC Mokuti Solar Energy, a joint venture of O&L Energy and CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions GmbH, operates the plant as the Independent Power Producer (IPP).View More
